Who is disability advocacy for?

We know sometimes it can be difficult to get your voice heard and when it’s an issue connected to disability, it can be worrying.

That’s where we come in.

The Centre for Resolution’s independent advocacy service is here for those with a disability including their family, friends and carers. We make sure you know your rights, understand your options and help you get your voice heard by giving you the correct information and support.

How can Centre for Resolution’s disability advocacy help?

Advocacy at its core aims to ensure that people, particularly those who are considered to be vulnerable in society, are able to:
  • Have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives
  • Be treated fairly
  • Defend and safeguard their rights
  • Help them gain access to information
  • Have their voice heard on issues such as social services, housing matters, finance, employment, education, benefits and human rights issues
An advocate might attend a meeting / interview / appointment in a supportive role.

Friends, family, employers, educational professionals, health and social care staff can all be supportive and helpful however it may be difficult for them to agree or accept the decisions that you make. An independent advocate will represent your wishes without judging you or giving you their personal opinion.
